In Europe, artichokes are used to treat indigestion. Korean thistle extract is used to treat digestive tract diseases including abdominal pain, abdominal distension and nausea.

Blood lipid and atherosclerosis

Many tests show that artichoke extract can reduce blood fat, mainly through the influence of cholesterol and lipid synthesis in the liver decomposition approach to regulate lipid levels, so as to prevent the happening of the atherosclerosis.

Protect liver and antioxidant function

Studies on the antioxidant function of thistle in north Korea were concentrated on leaf extract. Isolated from artichoke extract polyphenol compound antioxidant ability, found that the oxidation resistance of polyphenol compounds is mainly determined by the number of hydroxyl groups on aromatic ring, containing hydroxyl, the more stronger antioxidant ability. In addition, the second hydroxyl in the adjacent and opposite positions also increases its antioxidant capacity. The test results show that 1 g dried artichoke extract on the DPPH and FRAP EC50 values respectively, and 29.2 mg and 62.6 mg of VC, and 77.9 mg and 159 mg of VE, and has good resistance to LDL oxidation.
